A few weeks before Brett planned to propose, he contacted me about setting up the photography for the big question. I was so excited to be part of this wonderful, intimate moment, since I’ve done a few over the years I have been a photographer, and it is always an exercise in nervous excitement and anticipation. I love it!
But this time, instead of asking me to hide in the bushes to wait for that epic proposal moment, Brett had worked with Shannon’s family to arrange for a “family holiday photo session.” Shannon’s parents and sister were part of the scheme, too!
After about 15 minutes of family portraits, I asked Brett and Shannon if they would pose for a few portraits alone as a couple—giving Brett the perfect opportunity to propose. Shannon was so overjoyed and shocked that she didn’t even notice Brett’s family arriving; they had flown in for the special occasion. Moments like these are some of my favorites to photograph, because of the true, honest emotions that are so plain to see.
After a lot of hugs and kisses and a few more family photos, I spent some time with Brett and Shannon alone on the beach to photograph the two of them as a newly engaged couple before they went off to celebrate with both of their families.
Thank you, Brett, for trusting me with such an important moment in your lives. And thank you, Shannon, for not thinking I was a crazy photographer while I was trying to stall so all the family members could get there! It all worked out in the end, right? Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness!
